Margaret Goldberg appointed as the President and CEO
September 2021
Maggie embodies what is best about the Reeve Foundation.
Today, I’m thrilled to announce the appointment of Margaret (Maggie) Goldberg, a longtime member of our leadership team, as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
More than 200 candidates were screened for this position, and about a dozen finalists interviewed. From the start, Maggie was the gold standard against which everyone was measured. Ultimately, it became clear that she was, by far, the best candidate to lead and advance the Foundation’s critical work on behalf of people living with paralysis.
Maggie joined the Reeve Foundation in 2000. Over the next two decades, she gained experience and expertise across nearly every facet of the organization, from marketing and communications to policy programs and strategic planning.
In the Foundation’s earliest days, she worked closely with Dana and Christopher to establish the National Paralysis Resource Center—which has, to date, served more than 110,000 people. Most recently, Maggie’s steady leadership in the role of Chief Operating Officer helped ensure that the organization not only survived an extraordinary pandemic but simultaneously expanded its support of our community.
What impressed us about Maggie, and what made her shine among the candidates, is her deep knowledge and boundless dedication to the paralysis community. She chose this work intentionally after breaking her neck at the C2 level in a car accident when she was 16 years old. Maggie recovered, but her sense of purpose shifted. She centered her career around the belief that people living with spinal cord injuries deserved the support and resources to be independent and pursue the same purposeful lives as anyone else.
Spinal cord injury is deeply personal and Maggie understands that. Throughout her many years with Reeve, she has helped cultivate the empathy and unwavering support the organization is known for.
Maggie’s ability to create opportunities to match her vision, along with the respect she’s earned throughout the paralysis community, will be key in helping the Foundation amplify its efforts to advance research that translates into widely available treatments for paralysis—sooner, rather than later.
On a personal note, I can say that, without a doubt, Maggie embodies what is best about the Reeve Foundation. She is quick with a kind word, generous with her attention, and genuinely interested in the lives of those around her. She is the type of leader there ought to be more of, and I speak for the entire Board of Directors when I say the Reeve Foundation is lucky to have her at the helm.
